Durgapur is a very popular city in India. Durgapur is the second planned city of India after Chandigarh. The only dry port in eastern India is located at Durgapur city. Durgapur is the Third largest city in West Bengal and second planned city after Chandigarh in India. Durgapur has been considered as one of the central city's smart city plans but has not yet been transformed. 


Durgapur CityDesigned by Bidhan Chandra Roy, the Durgapur industrial area was designed help by two American architects Joseph Ellen Stein and Benjamin Polk. The city of Durgapur was named after the name of Durgadas Chattopadhay, the son of the landlord Gopinath Chattopadhay of the past Gopinath pur Village. In 1961, Queen 2nd Elizabeth of Britain came to Durgapur to visit the construction Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) with the help of Britain country.

Damodar on the southern border of Durgapur and Ajay River flows on the northern border. Also, four small rivers - Cunur, Tumni, Tamla and Singaran - flow through the city. The first two are the Ajay River and the next two are the branches of the Damodar River. 

Headquarters of various electronic media have been opened in Durgapur after Guwahati and Kolkata in Eastwar. Also, multiple national and regional paper printing is done here. After the Saltlake in West Bengal, Durgapur is the only one seen in the IT industry. Tropic of cancer passes over Durgapur.

There are all kinds of facilities in the city of Durgapur. The most populated area in Durgapur is Benachity Market which is located in the middle of the city. Benachity Market is a very large market, there are about 2000 shops and some shopping malls.

There are many government school and private school. DSP (Durgapur Steel Plant) is the biggest reason behind the improvement of Durgapur city. There are some government offices. Durgapur is a Urban area in Paschim Barddhaman. There are various types of Cinema Halls and Marriage halls. 

Durgapur Barrage is built across the Damodar River at Durgapur in Bankura district and partly in Paschim Bardhaman district in the state of West Bengal. It was constructed by Damodar Valley Corporation mainly for the purpose of irrigation and also to supply water to Industrial area of Durgapur. 
One of the prime attractions of the Durgapur city, the Durgapur barrage is built to control the water overflowing Damodar River in the monsoons and supply drinking water.
